Our standard data vision rigs come in two types. We have two of the simpler
units (the FSR Compass) and one with a more sophisticated mixer (the Extron
SGS-408). All are racked for easy transport and speedy assembly on site. In
addition to these data mixers there is a PAL vision mixer rig.
The two smaller rigs have FSR Compass switchers that can also grab a
logo to a frame store which can then be treated as an eighth input. One
has Betacam SP and S-VHS decks, and the other has DVD and 2 DV-cam
decks. Both units have line-up monitors for the video decks and the
switcher output. Outputs are four HD15 outputs, and a CAT-5. The output
can also be frozen.
The Compass units have seven inputs that can be composite, YC, YUV, RGBS
or RGBHV and any resolution up to 1600 x 1200 (UXGA). Output can be any
resolution up to 1365 x 1024. Switching can be a clean cut, a fade or
other transitions. The units can store a logo to a frame store that is
accessed by a button like an eighth input.
This unit has a processing delay that makes in unsuitable for live
camera. Audio delay units come with the rigs to time aline video and
graphics audio. The quality of output is excellent. All inputs can be
sized, positioned and tweaked.
The larger rig is the Extron SGS-408, which provides true vision mixing
between video and data. It accepts eight inputs which can be almost
anything including video, cameras and computers. It has dissolve, cut
and various wipe transitions.
There is a four way monitor bridge for lining up video inputs, and
monitors on both the preview and program busses. All inputs can be
sized, positioned and tweaked on the preview buss while the unit is in
use.
This is normally used with the rack containing two Betacam and a S-VHS
deck, below the switcher rack in the picture.
